U–Pb detrital zircon geochronology and source provenance in the Moroccan Meseta (Variscan belt): A perspective from the Rehamna massif

چکیده

Metasandstones from early Cambrian to Carboniferous stratigraphic successions were sampled in the Rehamna massif of Western Meseta Morocco. The sample shows a single Paleoproterozoic population at ca. 2 Ga suggesting local basement source. Ordovician is largely dominated by Cryogenian-Ediacaran and minor peaks. Devonian reveals age populations similar North-West African spectra indicating that southern-derived West Gondwana source essentially pertained up Devonian. two samples show more heterogeneous zircon with marked Ediacaran peak accompanied Mesoproterozoic sub-peaks important re-organization drainage systems. One also presence Upper grains, which suggests magmatic sources associated formation intracontinental extensional basins. comparison detrital paleogeographic reconstructions indicate change can be interpreted framework opening Paleotethys ocean coeval erosion orogenic topographies linked emplacement Mid-Variscan Allochthon, and/or collision an Avalonian indenter north.

Detrital zircon provenance and Ordovician terrane amalgamation,

19 Detrital-zircon analysis of sandstones interbedded with ca 464 Ma ignimbrites in 20 the lower Mweelrea Formation of the South Mayo Trough, western Ireland, 21 suggests Ordovician source-rock provenance that corresponds to two distinct 22 volcanic-arc phases on the Laurentian margin. East-derived sandstones contain a 23 suite of zircons with a mean age of ca 487 Ma that suggests derivation fr...

Detrital Zircon Geochronology by Laser-ablation Multicollector Icpms at the Arizona Laserchron Center

Detrital zircon geochronology is rapidly evolving into a very powerful tool for determining the provenance and maximum depositional age of clastic strata. This rapid evolution is being driven by the increased availability of ion probes and laser ablation ICP mass spectrometers, which are able to generate age determinations rapidly, at moderate to low cost, and of sufficient accuracy for most ap...

Provenance of Triassic and Jurassic Sandstones in the Banda Arc: Petrography, Heavy Minerals and Zircon Geochronology

Quartz-rich sandstones in the Banda Arc Islands are thought to be equivalent of Mesozoic sandstones on the Australian NW Shelf where they are important proven and potential reservoirs. Previous studies suggested that rivers draining Australia provided most of the sediment input and there have been suggestions of a northern provenance for some Timor sediments. We present results from a provenanc...

Uraninite, Coffinite and Brannerite from Shear-Zone Hosted Uranium Deposits of the Bohemian Massif (Central European Variscan Belt)

New mineralogical data are presented for shear-zone hosted uranium mineralisation from selected uranium deposits that occur in the Bohemian Massif. The uranium mineralisation is in high-grade metamorphic rocks of the Moldanubian Zone and/or in granitic rocks of the Moldanubian batholith and Bor pluton as complex uraninite–coffinite and uraninite–coffinite–brannerite assemblages. For analysed co...

DETRITAL ZIRCON U/Pb AGE DETERMINATION: UNDERSTANDING THE PROVENANCE OF THE LATE- CRETACEOUS SHUMAGIN FORMATION, ALASKA

The Chugach-Prince William (CPW) terrane is an Upper Cretaceous to Eocene accretionary complex exposed for ~2200 km in southern Alaska, extending from Baranof Island in the east to Sanak Island in the west. One of the thickest subduction-related accretionary complexes in the world, the CPW terrane is composed of deep-water flysch and associated volcanic rocks and is intruded by near-trench plut...
